IIHC offers this program for medical/dental colleges, where undergraduate and postgraduate students are trained to conduct patient interviews based on Calgary Cambridge guide with hands on training on a simulated patient.
Patients need to share their personal, and at times, sensitive information with the doctor they trust and feel comfortable with. The program sensitizes students to the need of building rapport, winning confidence, listening attentively, practicing empathy and understanding patients’ perspective, in order to make accurate diagnosis based on the complete information collected from the patients.
Patients often have a lot of queries and questions about their illness. Understanding and addressing their concerns, ideas and expectations is one of the important focuses of this training. Students are helped to understand the importance of addressing the patients’ concerns to earn their cooperation and compliance and hence, desired health outcomes.
Besides patient interview and information sharing, students are trained on updating the family of a critically ill patient and breaking bad news.
These topics are covered through videos, activities and role plays, followed by an interactive demonstration by the trainer.
