INCULCATING CLINICAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR MEDICAL AND DENTAL STUDENTS:
The objective of this program is to sensitize the students to the need and importance of practicing effective communication skills in patient care. The students are trained on conducting patient interview, sharing of information with the patient and the family, updating the family of a critically ill patient and breaking bad news. The program is conducted in accordance with the Calgary Cambridge guide. These topics are covered through simulation activity and role plays followed by return demo by the trainers.
IIHC has conducted more than 40 workshops for undergraduate and post graduate students of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi in the years 2016 and 2017. The program is being conducted regularly every year for the final year medical students and first year postgraduate students. Around 250 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate students are being trained in effective communication skills training every year. IIHC has trained more than 750 undergraduate and 450 post graduate medical students at Maulana Azad Medical College through this program.
In Post Graduate Institute of Medicine And Research (PGIMR), RML Hospital, Delhi, 600 postgraduate medical students have been trained on the importance of communication skills in patient care in a span of three years from 2015-2018. Similarly, around 300 undergraduate and post graduate dental students were trained on communication skills in patient care at ITS Dental College.
The program has received tremendous response from the students and the faculty.
